For the fifth year in a row, the University of Texas Women’s Volleyball team has again reached the Final Four round. The women will play this evening against Nebraska in Columbus, Ohio. The game will be televised on ESPN at 8:30 PM CST. If they win tonight, the team will compete in the NCAA championship game on Saturday evening.

Game Day: 2016
After several dismal seasons, the University of Texas Longhorns football team is looking much better this year. After they won an exciting season opener against Notre Dame (50-47), Bill and I decided to get tickets to the second home game against UT-El Paso.
Dell Match Play
Friday turned out to be the perfect day to visit the World Golf Championship-Dell Match Play. Not only did we have spectacular weather, but Bill and I got to see most of the 64 top-ranked players of the PGA Tour. Tee times for Friday’s 32 matches ranged from 10 AM to 3:10 PM.
UT Volleyball – In the Finals!
The University of Texas Women’s Volleyball team will be playing Nebraska in the National Championship game on Saturday evening! Last night they defeated the #2 ranked Minnesota team. UT was ranked #3 going into the semifinals, but won 3-1 in very close games.
Austin Aces
This week the Austin Aces will finish up their second season in the World Team Tennis league. Only active pros can play in the WTT, so the season is very short—the Aces have just seven home matches during the month of July. Games are played on a colorful indoor court at UT’s Gregory Gym (also home to the UT women’s volleyball team). This year’s Aces team is Teymuraz Gabashvili, Nicole Gibbs Jarmere Jenkins, Alla Kudryavtseva, and “marquee player” Andy Roddick.
Zilker Park Disc Golf
Last week Bill and I played 18 holes over at the Zilker Park disc golf course. Actually, we played the same nine holes twice. Only the southern nine are open, after being replanted earlier this year to improve drainage and prevent erosion. Now the other half of the course (near Barton Springs Road) is closed for similar renovations.
Over the Edge
Over the Edge is a unique fundraiser for Make a Wish Central and South Texas. For a minimum of $1500, donors can rappel down the 38 floors of the W Austin Hotel this weekend. According to their website, Over the Edge has raised almost $450,000 through private and corporate donations.
Summer X Games Austin
Austin is hosting the Summer X Games this weekend. Most of the action is east of downtown at the Circuit of the Americas race track, where the F1 race will be held in November. But the games kicked off on Thursday evening with free events on Congress Avenue in front of the Texas State Capitol. This was the same location as last June’s X Games Rally that secured Austin’s bid to host the X Games for the next four years.
Fun Fun Fun (UT Athletics Style)
Thanks to our generous season-ticket-holder friends, Bill and I attended three Longhorn sporting events at the University of Texas campus last weekend. All three were lots of fun. With such a big student body, UT has plenty of cheerleaders, dancers, mascots, and pep band members to keep fans entertained during the breaks. Plus I had my new Sony camera to play with…
Nike Big Four Classic
The University of Texas women’s volleyball team was looking good at last weekend’s Nike Big Four Classic tournament. Four top teams competed in this two-day event in Austin: University of Florida, Stanford, Penn State, and hometown favorite UT.
