The Austin Music Awards took place as scheduled on Wednesday, March 11th, at the ACL/Moody Theater. This annual show recognizes the achievements of our local musicians. Bill and I made a late-minute decision to attend after SXSW was canceled and balcony seats became available. We had an entire row to ourselves up there. This was one of the last big music events before COVID-19 restrictions were implemented in Austin.

The Texas Farmers Market at Mueller is open every Sunday from 10 AM to 2 PM at the Mueller Lake Park in East Austin. Vendor tents line up alongside the lake and under the Browning Hangar, a remnant from the days when this site was part of the old Robert Mueller Municipal Airport.

Bill and I finally toured The Independent, a condo tower that locals call “The Jenga” due to its offset design. At 693 feet, this is now the tallest building in Austin and the tallest residential building west of the Mississippi. The Austonian previously held these honors, but has slipped to second place at 583 feet.

For the third time in seven years, QuiltCon was back at the Austin Convention Center. Presented by The Modern Quilt Guild, QuiltCon is the biggest modern (vs. traditional) quilting show in the world. I had attended the Austin shows in 2013 and 2015. These shows just get better and better each time.

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders stopped in Austin as part of a swing through Texas prior to Super Tuesday’s primary elections here. A rally was announced for Sunday evening at Auditorium Shores.

This month Bill and I attended the Voices for Justice concert at the ACL Moody Theater. The concert was part of a fundraising event for Proclaim Justice, a non-profit organization that focuses on freeing wrongly convicted inmates, especially those facing life in prison or the death penalty. This organization is based in Austin, but considers cases throughout the US.
