We had just barely recovered from SxSW, and already it was time for another music event! Last weekend Austin hosted with HONK TX, an annual festival of community street bands. Over 20 bands from around the country converged here for three days of parade-marching, costume-dressing, and, most importantly, music-making.
On Friday evening, HONK TX took over the parking lots near Jo’s Coffee Shop on South Congress. Saturday’s festivities were up near the UT campus, and then the weekend finished up with a parade through East Austin. Since Friday evening’s weather was comfortably warm, Bill and I walked up South Congress after sunset to hear a few bands…
D20 Brass Band from Seattle. Their tag line: “a band for nerds by nerds.”
Urban Achievers Brass Band from Austin. Regulars at Banger’s Sunday brunches.
Minor Mishap Marching Band from Austin. Always great fun.
