SXSW Music day was going strong today. I looked around the Flatstock show and SXSW Gaming, but most of my day was spent listening to music. After dinner, Bill and I headed to Central Presbyterian to listen to several groups. Our evening ended with a tribute performance to 70’s band called Big Star. We had never heard of this Memphis group, but apparently they influenced the next generation of musicians.
It’s always fun to explore the Flatstock art poster show and look for posters from concerts that we attended. I was disappointed that the Music Gear Show was replaced this year by SXSW Marketplace, a hodge-podge of local vendor booths. I’m a big supporter of local businesses, but that Music Gear Show was so interesting. Why not offer both in 2018?
This year SXSW Gaming moved from the Palmer Events Center to the Austin Convention Center. The event floor was filled with gamers playing electronic and board games. Nintendo had a big presence to promote their new Switch game console.
