Home Slice Pizza had unusually beautiful fall weather for their 11th annual Carnival O’ Pizza. This event had been delayed almost two months due to stormy weather back in September. However, last Saturday’s November weather was carnival-perfect!
The carnival was set up between and in front of Home Slice and More Home Slice. (These names always me laugh: More Home Slice is their take-out location, right next door to their sit-down restaurant.) When Bill and I arrived, the Dead Music Capital Band was playing a lively set for the crowd.
There were plenty of fun carnival games to keep the kids (and adults) amused, including a dunking booth.
One highlight of the carnival was the action-packed Hands On An Eggplant Sub competition. I watched this for about a minute, which was probably longer than most people. I don’t know who won. The previous record was 64 hours.
Another festival highlight was the Pizza Eating Contest. Bill and I had left to explore other places on South Congress, and by the time we returned, just two nauseous-looking competitors remained. A tie was declared, so both will receive free pizza for a year. Even though Home Slice is one of the best joint in Austin, I bet they don’t want to even look at a slice of pizza anytime soon.
