Downtown Austin was quite crowded with the convergence of SXSW Music and St. Patrick’s Day. I tried to stay away from the craziness. I spent the afternoon at the Austin Convention Center, wandering back and forth between the two upstairs stages and looking around the Gaming, Music Gear, and Flatstock Expos on the first floor. In the evening, I listened to several fine performances in St. David’s Historic Sanctuary.
The SXSW Gaming Expo moved to the Austin Convention Center this year. This event is open to the public and attracts lots of kids. I’d read that it wasn’t as big as usual due to a scheduling conflict with the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
The Music Gear Expo wasn’t as interesting as last year. There was an abundance of electronic equipment, but not many vendors with instruments.
Flatstock 53, a show featuring music concert posters, also opened.
