SXSW Interactive has now switched over to Music. Bill and I started out the day with a highly-recommended documentary at the Alamo Lamar. Bill continued with SXSW Films while I hung out at the Austin Convention Center in the afternoon. We the met back up for music in the evening. The weather was perfect. It was a delightful day.
The Dawn Wall
This documentary follows two climbers who scaled the Dawn Wall side of El Capitan in Yosemite. The climbers, Tommy Caldwell and Kevin Jorgensen, were joined by director Josh Lowell for a Q&A after the film. This was the best film that I saw at SXSW.
Beyond the Band: Shakey Graves
Alejandro Rose-Garcia (aka Shakey Graves) was an actor in LA and decided to move back to Austin. As he became more successful, he realized that he needed a booking agent (Keith Levy), especially on tour. He met his manager (Body Johnson) about five years ago. All three agreed that each has helped their businesses grow. Levy and Johnson observed that Shakey Graves has always been their priority. Rosa-Garcia felt that YouTube videos helped him to gain a fan base. His first steady gig was Wednesday 5-7 PM at The Hole in the Wall in Austin. He played three songs from his upcoming album.
