When you’re running a 5K in a gorilla suit, you do not wish for a warm, sunny day. So this morning’s overcast skies and cool temperatures were just right for the fifth annual Austin Gorilla Run. Previous races were held downtown, but this year the event was moved to the east side Mueller development. Gorilla Runs are also organized in Denver and Cincinnati, all benefiting the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund.
The event starts off with a costume contest for groups and individuals. I’ve attended several Gorilla Runs, and I think the costumes are more creative each year. Here’s a look at some of this year’s entries:
Imperial Stormtroopers and Darth Vader
Rosie Riveters
Space Ape
Ape-raham Lincoln
Teenage Mutant Ninja Gorillas
Construction Gorillas
Formal Gorillas
Super Heroes
Ben Gorill-Hur
