The 2013 Austin City Limits Music Festival is underway in Zilker Park. The festival now spans two weekends with after-shows in Austin, Dallas and Houston. Bill and I weighed the pros and cons of each weekend, considering factors such as the UT football schedule, probable weather (hot or very hot), and park grass conditions, and decided to attend the first weekend.
Besides the expanded schedule, there have been other changes in the ACL Fest experience. New and improved wristbands make check-in go even faster now. Another merchandise booth is set up in the Art Market so it’s easier to buy a much-coveted festival T-shirt. The huge Barton Creek Beer Hall with big screen TVs and craft beers provides welcome shade during the hot afternoons. The food vendor options are improving every year and now feature local favorites such as Salt Lick, Second, Mighty Cone, and Noble Pig. But food lines are still long, starting in late afternoon, and the festival grounds feel too crowded.
The live music was great as usual. Here’s the groups we saw on Friday:
Thao and the Get Down Stay Down
Food Highlight of the Day: The Mighty Cone Hot & Crunchy Chicken Cone
Good music, good food, cooler weather. Looks like a grand time.
Thanks for keeping me in the loop of things happening in my beloved Austin. We miss y’all!
