Bill and I always enjoy meeting friends at the annual Oktoberfest sponsored by the German-Texan Heritage Society. Held on the grounds of the German Free School on 10th Street, this annual celebration features authentic German music, food, and of course, beer.
We picked a shady spot in the outdoor Biergarten behind the school building and listened to German songs played by the Polkadillos. By early afternoon, this area was completely in the shadow of the Hyatt House Hotel, which is being built next door. (Do we really need another downtown hotel?)
(Time for lunch.)
The next musical act was YodelBlitz, who played lively polkas and folk music. For just three musicians, they sounded quite good. The two women did a fun song featuring cowbells.
(Time for snack.)
Another song featured the long, wooden alphorn. And yes, we did yell “Ricola!”
