ACL Fest – Day 1: 2017

Bill and I are attending the first weekend of the Austin City Limits Music Festival. We’ve been going to ACL Fest in Zilker Park for many years now. The music is always great, but the weather can make or break the festival.  Friday afternoon was a little hot (high around 90), but the evening was pleasant.

There have been some changes at ACL Fest this year. The festival footprint was expanded to the other side of Barton Springs Road and one of the main stages was moved over there. The grounds definitely felt less crowded. A third entrance was added on the southwest corner, but since security was tighter, entrance lines were still long. The large tents for eating were replaced with fanciful, but totally impractical, shade sails that really don’t provide much shade.

Here’s who we heard on Friday:

The Wild Now

Asleep at the Wheel

Band of Heathens

Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness
(wins my vote for Best Band Name and Best Props)

The Lemon Twigs

Spencer Ludwig

Hamilton Leithauser

Vulfpeck

La Femme

The Revivalists (with sign language interpreter)

Solange

Ryan Adams
