Art City Austin is an annual fine arts festival sponsored by Art Alliance Austin. This year’s festival was held at the Palmer Events Center and attracted over 100 artists from around the country.
Most artists had posted “No Photographs” signs, so I don’t have many pictures of the actual artwork. I especially enjoyed talking to Hetty Metzger (Cedar Park, TX) and Walter Arnold (Henderson, NC).
Local musicians performed on an outdoor stage throughout the three-day festival. Yep…that’s a drone camera to the left of the stage. You can’t go to an outdoor event here anymore without having one flying overhead.
For the past few years, the festival was held on the streets in front of City Hall. Closing down several major thoroughfares, including the First Street Bridge, created major traffic headaches for us downtown residents. I applaud the decision to move to the Palmer Events Center. Most of the booths were inside or sheltered under the building’s west canopy, so I bet the artists also preferred this new location. Plus there were indoor bathrooms.
